Update on Single Use Bags Restriction
Several cities in Santa Clara County have recently adopted or are considering adoption of local ordinances that would limit the availability of single use paper or plastic bags in retail establishments. The Cities Association of Santa Clara County has taken formal action encouraging all cities in the County to adopt ordinances restricting the distribution of single-use carryout bags, and the West Valley Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority, of which Campbell is a member, recently asked member cities to consider a coordinated West Valley approach to banning single use bags.

The City of Campbell has not yet taken a position on a bag ban, but will be working with neighboring West Valley cities over the next few months to consider the issue and to support the use of reusable bags. We hope this coordinated approach will provide some consistency among potential limitation requirements between Campbell and our neighboring communities. Of course, before any final action is taken, there will be opportunities for public input.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to overwhelmed first responders and provide immediate assistance to victims. The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations and team organization. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. Consider investing about 20 hours of your valuable time today so that we might save lives tomorrow and be a more resilient community for the next large disaster.
